Barnacles and pests like Vermetid Snails can bore holes inside of coral skeletons and cause weak skeletons, damage and irritation. Small, ugly tubes will grow out of the corals and the corals will sometimes encrust on them, which ruins the corals otherwise beautiful growth patterns. It is important to be diligent in the removal of these pests which tend to favor stony corals like Acropora, Montipora, Porites, and other similar species.
